How to BBQ a Sirloin Steak to Perfection
When you start with a quality sirloin, simple is best. Light seasoning and a hot grill bring out the rich flavour of our grass-fed, hormone- and antibiotic-free beef. Quick to prepare and easy to serve for any night, it pairs well with seasonal sides, and leftovers are perfect for sandwiches, grain bowls, or salads.

Ingredients

  • Sirloin Steak
  • Coarse salt and cracked pepper (or your favourite steak spice)
  • Butter or ghee

Directions

  1. Bring the steak to room temperature: Let your steak sit out at room temperature for 30 to 45 minutes before grilling. This will help it cook evenly.
  2. Season simply (and generously!): Pat the meat dry, then brush it with butter or ghee, and season both sides. The sirloin already has amazing beefy flavour, so you don’t need much more.
  3. Preheat the BBQ: Heat your grill to high (450-500°F). Oil the grates with a high-heat oil to prevent sticking.
  4. Sear over direct heat: Sear steak for 2 to 3 minutes per side, with the lid open, to create a flavourful crust.
  5. Finish over indirect heat (if thicker)Move the steak to a cooler zone and finish cooking to your liking. Rare: 120-125°F Medium-rare: 130-135°FMedium: 140-145°F
  6. Let it Rest: Remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes to lock in the juices. Add a spoonful of ghee (or butter) on top for extra richness.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I use this method for other cuts of steak?

Yes, ribeye, striploin, or flank steak all work well. Just adjust cooking time and rest accordingly.

What if I don’t have a BBQ?

A cast-iron pan on high heat is a great alternative. Follow the exact timing and rest steps.

Can I prep this ahead of time?

You can season your steak up to 24 hours in advance. Keep it uncovered in the fridge in dry-brine, and this will enhance the flavour and create a better crust while cooking.

Do I need a thermometer?

It’s helpful but not essential. You can use the finger test or slice into the thickest part to check doneness.

How do I keep it tender?

Don’t skip the resting time, as this lets the juices settle back into the meat so every bite stays juicy.

How long will leftovers keep in the fridge?

Leftover grilled sirloin steak will keep well in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days when stored in an airtight container.
